In more typical years, roughly 500,000 sellers add their homes to the market in April. This year, we saw fewer than 400,000 sellers entering the market in April (<em>see graph below<\/em>):<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blog.sfloridaluxuryhomes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/20230511-the-number-of-sellers-listing-their-homes-is-lower-than-the-norm.png\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" data-rel=\"lightbox-image-0\" data-rl_title=\"\" data-rl_caption=\"\" title=\"\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.sfloridaluxuryhomes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/20230511-the-number-of-sellers-listing-their-homes-is-lower-than-the-norm.png\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>While there are a number of factors contributing to this trend, one thing keeping inventory low right now is that some homeowners are reluctant to move when the mortgage rate they have on their current house is lower than the one they could get today on their next house. It\u2019s called <em>rate lock<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>As a recent survey from <em>Realtor.com<\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/news.move.com\/2023-04-17-Realtor-com-R-Survey-82-of-Those-Looking-to-Buy-and-Sell-a-Home-Feel-Locked-In-by-Low-Mortgage-Rate\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" style=\"color: rgb(5, 99, 193);\">explains<\/a><em>, <\/em>56% of people who are planning to sell in the next 12 months say they\u2019re waiting for rates to come down.<\/p>\n<p><strong>While this <em>wait-and-see <\/em>approach is right for some sellers, it also creates an opening for more eager sellers to jump in now.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>If your current house truly doesn\u2019t fit your needs anymore and you\u2019re ready to move, don\u2019t miss this chance to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.simplifyingthemarket.com\/2023\/02\/20\/spring-into-action-boost-your-homes-curb-appeal-with-expert-guidance\/?a=616460-ab6caa3a6a8f085fc17c865a33a506b4\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" style=\"color: rgb(5, 99, 193);\">stand out<\/a>.
